Trauma-Sensitive Yoga

What to expect

Classes offer mindful yoga forms and breathing exercises to safely explore moving, strengthening, stretching and resting, in an accessible, supportive, and non-judgemental environment. 

  • Classes use Trauma Centre Trauma-Sensitive Yoga principles.  To learn more visit here

  • Participants are invited and empowered to choose what they are doing with their body

  • The facilitator practices with the class and is there to provide safe, professional guidance

  • There are no hands-on assists

  • No yoga experience is necessary

Why is it good for me

  • Practice choice making and feeling safe in your body 

  • Improve body awareness 

  • Improve flexibility and increase strength

  • Reduce stress levels

Who is it for

  • Anyone who has witnessed or experienced an event that left a lasting impression on their body and sense of self. For example, a physical or mental health condition, witnessed a traumatic event, had major surgery, or experienced substance dependency.

  • Classes are also suitable for anyone with depression, anxiety, or on the Autism spectrum

  • Anyone looking for a safe space to practice yoga and movement

What to bring

  • We provide yoga mats, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer

  • We provide some blocks and bolsters. You are welcome to bring any additional equipment you would like to use during class

  • If possible wear comfortable workout clothes and perhaps bring something warm to wear during rest. Change rooms are available
